Mortoise Bio
Mortoise is a Sulcata or African Spur Thighed Tortoise. He comes from the Savannahs of Africa, where his species graze on grasses, hay and weeds to help them grow up to 3 feet long and up to 150 pounds. Sulcatas can live 100 or more years.
Being a herbivore, it is important that Mortoise eat very little protein, as his shell could become deformed.
Mortoise has been with us since December 2009. When he first came to us he was approximately 11.25" long and weighed about 4 pounds. Today he is 15" long and weighs over 10 pounds.
He loves to roam around and eat his hay and cat grass, taking time to bask under his heat bulb to warm up occasionally. He enjoys his visitors as well as the pictures his admirers bring him. Come in and see Mortoise soon!
