As the cool weather and beautiful fall colours arrive, we’re given a stark reminder that it’s only going to get colder yet! So why not make the most of the remaining nice weather for yourself and your dog with these fun fall activities before it gets just a little too chilly.
-
Scavenger Hunt
You can set up a scavenger hunt for your dog in your house, yard, or any other areas you’re comfortable with. Take some of their favorite toys, treats, or treat-stuffed toys and hide them in piles of leaves, in blankets, or in other areas. Then simply send them searching! This is a fun and enriching activity that puts your dog’s nose to work to find their tasty and fun rewards. Something like the Kong classic stuffed with biscuits or other treats is a great idea for this one!
-
Autumn Hike
If your dog loves being outdoors and exploring new areas, take them with you on an autumn hike. They get to enjoy and explore their new surroundings while you get to take in the beautiful fall colours and the crunch of the leaves under your feet. Just be prepared with a good leash, a doggy water bottle, and maybe a dog sweater or jacket depending on the forecast.
-
Fall Photoshoot
The fall colours lend themselves well to photography, so why not make your dog a part of it? Head off to a pet-friendly pumpkin patch or corn maze, or set up a nice little scene with store-bought pumpkins and fall décor. Set up your phone or camera, and have your dog strike its cutest pose for some great fall photos! You can also take it a step further and get some professional shots done for your next Christmas card featuring Fido!
-
Costume Time
Fall and Halloween sit hand in hand, so why not dress up your dog if they’re happy with it? Whether you are having a Halloween photoshoot, taking your dog trick-or-treating with the family, or going out to a pet-friendly Halloween celebration, include your dog in the festivities. You can even do a themed costume with your dog or matching costumes for even more wholesome fun!

Fall-themed Treats
Fall is synonymous with pumpkin spice lattes, apple pies, and other tasty goods, so why not get your pet some fall-themed treats? Pumpkin in dog treats is commonplace so it’s a great place to start, but you can also get pumpkin spice dental treats, pumpkin and cinnamon dog froyo, or apple and cinnamon treats—to name a few. In addition, if you are one to carve pumpkins, you can always give them some as a treat or set it aside to make some delicious homemade treats for your pup.
Can you think of any other fun fall ideas for you and your dog? There’s a seemingly endless number of things to do and this list just scratches the surface. If the weather gets cooler faster than time allows for many of these activities, you can always have a stay-in movie night and treat your pooch to their own tasty Yakycharms pupcorn.
