Adopting a Cat Through ARF & Pisces - Pisces Pet Emporium

Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) is a foundation dedicated to the compassionate and ethical treatment of animals and has rescued over 2100 cats and 4,500 dogs to date. These animals are found on First Nations reserves and throughout rural Alberta and have often endured many hardships throughout their lives. ARFs commitment to quality, long-term housing for their rescued animals paired with Pisces vast selection of products and knowledgeable staff makes Pisces an ideal one-stop-location for anyone interested in bringing home a new feline friend!

View The Available Cats & Kittens!

Pisces acts as a remote adoption center for ARF. When you walk through are doors, you can find the currently available cats & kitten directly to the back of the store. Each available cat will have a card telling you a little about themselves. On each card, you will find:

  • Name
  • Age
  • Sex
  • Good with other cats/dogs? Yes/No
  • Good with kids? Yes/No
  • A short biography about the cats personality

After viewing all the cats and reading all the cards, you may have found a cat that captured your heart. If none of the cats really jumped out at you, don't force it! Our cats and kittens are constantly cycling and it will only be a matter of time until you find a cat right for you!

Spending Time Together

If you are interested and you would like to meet a cat, you can ask a Pisces staff member and they will bring out a short form to sign. The form covers the basic information abut the cat, the applicants information and compatibility. Once this form has been filled out, you can spend up to 20 minutes with the cat in our "Get Acquainted" room! Ask as many questions as you can to your designated Pisces Pet pet councilor. Everyone in the household is required to meet and spend time with the cat before adoption. If you do no not own your home, or live in a condo, you will need a copy of your landlords approval or condo board rules to show that cats are allowed on the premises. You must be 18 years of age or older to adopt a cat or kitten from Pisces & ARF.

Filling Out The Online Application

After you have decided that this is your cat, you can place the cat on pending adoption for one night to think about the pros & cons of cat ownership. During this time of pending, you will need to go online to the ARF website and fill out your online application. This application is similar to the one you have filled out to visit the cat, but more in depth. This application will cover everything from How many people are int he house, pet adoption history, kids, past experience, other pets int he house, behavioral needs, time spent at home, and much much more. It is important to keep in mind that cats can have very distinct personalities like we, and the cute fluffy kitten you saw here at Pisces may not be compatible with your current living situation. The application is to ensure that the cat in questions and the new home will be compatible with each other.

Arrange A Pick Up Time

After filling out your online application, now you wait! Upon receiving a response back from ARF (this can take anywhere from 24 hours - 7 days) assuming you were approved, you can call Pisces and arrange a time to pick up your new cat! The cats available here at Pisces are low cost and range from $50 - $190 depending on a variety of factors. When you come to pick up your cat, it is important to know you must supply your own kennel or cat carrier. Some form of identification that ties you to your current address is also required. You will also be issued some informative hand-outs including training tips and helping your cat feel comfortable in your new home. If your are a first time cat owner, you will also need to pick up a variety of necessary supplies for your cat. These include but are not limited to:

The only reason that ARF exists and has continued to find loving homes for needing pets is the tremendous support in the forms of public donations and volunteers. Luckily, the recent partnership between ARF and Pisces Pet Emporium is mutually beneficial. We have now found homes for over 500 cats in the last 3 years and are looking to help many many more!
