Tips for Stress-Free Travel with your Pet - Pisces Pet Emporium

Summer is right around the corner and that means it is time to pack the car and get on the road! Bringing your pet along for the journey saves you from the excuse of canceling your plans and gives you the opportunity to have a fun travelling experience with your pet! If you plan on travelling this summer but you’re not sure how to go about it with your pet, here are some tips for a stress-free trip.

In the Car

Before hitting the road, you may want to take your pet on mini practice trips to get them comfortable in the car. You’ll want to make sure you set up your car in a way that is comfortable and efficient for your pet.

First, you need to make sure there will be enough room for your furry friend and your belongings. If you are limited with space, try folding the back seats down so it’s a flat surface for your pet to lie on. Then you will be able to put your travel necessities on the floor of the car, in the trunk, or anywhere that your pet won’t be lying.

Next, gather all your pet’s food, and don’t forget the treats to reward for good behaviour. To avoid dehydration, be sure to pack the best bottled water for your pet and yourself. Not only will you stay hydrated during your travels, but bottled water serves as a convenient way to refill your pet’s water dish on the go. With that being said, don’t forget to pack your pet’s food and water dish, as well as their leash and collar. This way, you can easily walk your pet at rest stops, and your furry companion will have a chance to go to the bathroom. Be sure to make stops frequently, about every two hours or so, to ensure that your pet is as comfortable as possible.

Upon Arrival

Once you and your pet arrive at your destination, try to go on as many walks as possible, especially in the morning when your pet first wakes up and right before they go to sleep at night. This will prevent any unwanted accidents.

If you are staying in an unfamiliar place, try having a designated sleeping space for your pet so they can feel comfortable and cozy while staying there. Here are some ways to make your pet feel safe in an unknown place: put their food and water in an easy-access spot, and bring some of their favourite toys to help them feel more at home.

While you are excited to enjoy the fun of your travel destination, it’s important to keep in mind that for your pet, being in an unfamiliar place can be stressful, so providing as much comfort as possible will be key to a stress-free vacation.

During Vacation

Although it may be stressful to plan a trip with your pet, it can also be an awesome opportunity to make memories with them. Whether you are hitting the mountain, beach, or road, it would be a great way to get your pet out of the house to explore.

If you plan on camping with your dog, try exploring the nearest hiking trail. It would be a great outdoor activity for your family and pet to enjoy the fresh air and get exercise. Maybe you and your four-legged friend are hitting the beach; what’s a better way to bond than by swimming in the ocean, lake, or river and relaxing in the sun? If you are planning on taking a road trip, your pet would be a great partner for some company on the long road ahead.

Instead of trying to find a pet-sitter or kennel, try planning a way to include your pet in your travels. Not only does it make it easy for you since you won’t have to worry about them, but it will be the time of their life adventuring with their favourite people. As long as you prioritize their well-being and make them feel safe, your travels will be stress-free.
