Zinc Free Methylene Blue
Methylene Blue (also known as Methylthioninium chloride) is a cationic dye, redox indicator, and photosensitizer. In aquaculture, it serves as an anti-fungal and anti-parasitic and has commonly been used to treat fish eggs to ensure they are not lost to fungal overgrowth. Methylene Blue is an aquarium-safe disinfectant and can also be used for the treatment of ammonia and nitrite poisoning.
For the treatment of:
- Fungus on eggs
- Various external protozoans including: Ichthyophthirius, Chilodonella, Ichthyobodo (Costia) and Epistylis
- Fungus and some bacteria
- Sliminess of skin and Oodinium
- Gill disease
- Nitrite or cyanide poisoning
Procedures & Dosing
Remove carbon only, keep all other filtration running. Add one teaspoon (5 ml) to 38L (10 gallons). Continue for 3-5 days. Perform partial water changes after 24 hours, then re-dose. After 3-5 day treatment, perform 25% water change and replace carbon. Dose aquarium with beneficial bacteria. When used as an egg fungal preventative, continue treatment 2-3 days after fish are free swimming. For best results, treat in separate hospital tank.
